Education: David graduated magna cum laude with a
Bachelor of Arts degree from East Tennessee
State University
in 1980. He earned his Bachelor's degree in just 15 months.
His honors and activities included membership in Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha
Lambda Delta. He won numerous awards on the ETSU Speech and Debate Team and
participated in the university's Concert Choir (including performances as a
tenor soloist) and the Jazz Singer Vocal Ensemble.
While he was attending East Tennessee
State University,
David was also enrolled at the University
of Tennessee in 1980 as a special
student in Chinese. He earned all credits by examination.
In May 1984, David graduated in the top 10% of his law school
class from the University of Tennessee
(1981-1984) where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence with high
honors. His honors and activities while at the University of Tennessee
College of Law included: Frederick Bonham Scholar (1981); Harold C. Warner
Scholar (1982); Carl W. Miller Scholar (1983); Who's Who Among American Law
Students; ABA Law Student Division. While in law school, David also served as
an assistant editor for the Tennessee Law Review.
Employment: Law Office of David Day, P.C. (1991-present).
David is the senior attorney at this firm which is presently
involved in a general civil practice with primary emphasis on personal
injury, worker's compensation, attorney malpractice, creditor bankruptcy
representation, commercial, real estate, contract and business practice and
litigation.
He was involved as a sole practitioner (1990-91) and then formed the Law
Office of David Day, P.C. As president and owner of law office in Cookeville,
Tennessee, he focused on a general civil
practice with primary emphasis on personal injury, worker's compensation,
attorney malpractice, creditor bankruptcy representation, commercial,
contract and business practice and litigation.
Prior to beginning his solo practice, David was with Dickerson & Day
(1987-1990). He served as a partner in general civil practice in Cookeville,
Tennessee. The areas of emphasis included personal injury, worker's
compensation, creditor bankruptcy representation, commercial, contract and
general business practice and litigation. Prior to that time, he served as an
associate at the Law Office of Donald G. Dickerson
(1984-1987), a general civil practice law firm in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Licensing: State Courts: David was
admitted to practice law in Tennessee in 1984, and is licensed to practice in
every Tennessee state court, including the Tennessee Supreme Court and the
Courts of Appeal.
Federal Courts. David is also admitted to practice in the
U.S. District Court for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee, as
well as the United States Bankruptcy Courts of the Middle and Eastern
Districts. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1990. In that same year, he was also
admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court
Organizations: David presently has membership in the
following organizations: American Bar Association; Tennessee Bar Association;
Association of Trial Lawyers of America; Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association;
Putnam County
and Upper Cumberland Bar Associations.
